Do you know which firm the role is at? I’d try to connect with someone I know at the firm and apply directly instead
I would cut and paste the job description into Google and see where else the job might posted.
I own a recruiting firm, and our niche is legal recruiting, but I think this applies to any industry. We have heard a lot recently about recruiting scams and people using AI for mass emails, so I would be careful.
If the email came from a personal domain, look up the recruiter’s name on LinkedIn and see where they work. Ask for their company website and a link to the official job posting. We do not post every position publicly, but all our active jobs are listed on our website. Boutique law firms also do not always advertise every opening.
Applying directly to the firm has its own challenges. At a large firm, your resume might get lost among hundreds of applicants or never reach the right person. If a recruiter has a trusted relationship with the firm, they often send your resume directly to the hiring manager, explain why you are a strong candidate, and follow up on your behalf. Does this happen every time? No, but a good recruiter does add value.
I would respond and ask questions. You have nothing to lose by requesting their website, LinkedIn profile, and information about the position. If they cannot verify who they are or where they work, I would not move forward.
