99k in 6 years. Set my final payment at 5 days before my 30th birthday and worked backwards from there. Put all bonuses towards payments and increased monthly when I was promoted.
Used the snowball method attacking highest interest first and made minimum payments on lower APRs. Tracked diligently in my excel models and stepped into my 30s without owing a dime to anyone.
Totally agree, I couldn't pay on my loans in school, my jobs went toward keeping myself alive ha. But if at all possible, make interest only payments while you defer.
B-school with $143k of debt, graduated in 2017. Paid it all off in Oct 2019. Feels great to be debt free!
I honesty think the probability of Congress doing something is greater now than pre covid. 2 years ago I wouldn’t bat an eye. In this environment now, and new election coming up, trump might do the unthinkable. Biden already has a plan he wants to implement to address student loans. To be clear, I am paying mines off, but I’m starting to feel if this cash can go to the market and buy at the lows, pay the minimum until someone does the unthinkable
None for undergrad or business school, if I had to take out loans I honestly wouldn’t have gotten an undergrad degree, but that’s just me, I don’t think everyone should just abandon undergrad if they have to take out loans.
I paid 50k in one year with help for living expenses from my fiancé. Given I ran a side business and has a referral bonus. But I would say 50k in two years is freaking great! 👍🏻
Keep it up OP, the amount of money you are going to save is crazy and it’s respectable you are taking ownership over it like that, you should be proud of yourself.
I graduated with 35k in student loan debt and also started doing my masters part time while working full time at Accenture (which cost about another 35k). I was able to pay my student loans and also pay my tuition for my masters in 2.5 years.
I made it a priority that I wanted to be debt free so I moved back in with my parents so since I wasn’t paying rent I was able to make a huge dent in paying off my loans and paying for grad school.
I think it’s totally possible that you can pay off your 50k in 2 years. It just has to be your priority. Nothing like financial freedom :)
5500...2.5 months
0 and 0 - I love Europe !
25k, 2 years. Paid them right after I got out of college (7% interest is a bitch)
We were paying $5k/mo. Living in bumfuck towns so wife could make more while I worked remotely. It sucked. Now we’re doing $1,500 and hoping some amount gets forgiven.
Graduated with zero debt. Guess I was lucky. Trying to do the same for my kids, as my family did for me.
So I have a question, as you get raises some people decide to pay more to debt. Should I be doing that as I get raises or put more into 401k/ira/hsa?
It’s a balance, as SC6 said debt is always good since it is just taking gobbs of money.
That said at bare minimum do the matching%.
Also if you see a specific opportunity that will produce a return higher than what your debt % is, that may be beneficial to put just a little more into as long as you are still meeting debt obligations.
As mentioned focus on Roth contributions for the tax free gains. Roth IRA will really just held back a 401k if your looking for more control, somewhere to put money other than income or just don’t want it held by your firm. Can always transfer 401k contributions to the IRA, but IRAs have lower yearly limits than 401s.
This is great, I’m looking to pay back 65k+ in MBA debts
