It's an interesting take but my money came from sweat & blood (working even harder in some ways after I got out to get my current job) and at this point, I find that spending $1M on lawyer fees is better for society than $5 to a deranged homeless. But of course it doesn't work when some people give them money to sustain them.
In practice, I’m more likely to carry/use mace than a pistol. I took a Massad Ayoob course back in another state and yea, even a legit use of firearms can be a lose lose situation. But getting ccw to cover another base.
Get the insurance coverage if this is a main reason to carry concealed. I carry almost every day but I wouldn’t even draw unless it was a dire situation because I’m more concerned with civil court than I am of criminal court, especially if you live/work in a major US city.
I have an umbrella policy for my family with protection in there. I understand the reasoning of going 0-100 but really depends on what kind of situations you put yourself in. You’re statistically more likely to shoot yourself owning a handgun than you are ever using it in defense.
Yeah, that’s a tough situation. I get why your coworker thinks giving money helps, but I also see how that can enable the problem rather than solve it. I’d rather support structured aid than handouts. CCW or not, staying aware and having non-lethal options like mace seems like a solid balance. Stay safe out there!

I wouldn't have shared that to anyone at work, I asked my previous boss about carry rules and was let go the next week. Shit job wasn't worth fighting in court. Made it to better places.
Sorry man. I don’t get it. You would rather pay $1 million dollars to a lawyer and lose years of your life to stress and court days instead of de escalating?
You don’t have to give them money. You can walk away or take another route.
Also, I give money to homeless people if it feels right. One time a dude asked for a McDonald’s meal, when it came time to order he asked if we could switch it to 4 sandwiches since the cost would be the same. I agreed, and when he got the food I saw him go out and give 3 sandwiches to 3 young kids that looked pretty rough. Again, you don’t have to give but I’m judging those who do isn’t the right way.
I carry a pocket knife, money clip dagger, sharpie dagger, carbon fiber knife on me at all times, I won’t talk about what’s in my car but I’m prepared for ALL situations.
Fact. Have gone through many places with these.
Wow I am sorry to hear that happened to you. I have never had anything like that happen to me and I would be really scared if it did.
thx, that was a last straw moment as they often invade personal space so you can’t ignore them. And I live in expensive areas too. In a previous locale, got pushed from the side by rando junkie in midtown Manhattan.
I keep a power inverter and a microwave in my car. I also keep a box of honey buns in my car.
Whenever I see a homeless person I heat up a honeybun and then toss it at them when it's molten hot.
I currently have 13 pending felony cases.
visited NYC recently and a female homeless came on the subway saying how she’s hungry. Took a few bills but refused food & water. Dude who offered water knew it and laughed when rejected.
