Current 5th year. Started in big law, left to a boutique and changed practice. Happier with the work life balance…much happier. I went from a 100 hour work week to a 30 hour if that. But still not enjoying my dream practice. I think it’s time to try something else before I find myself with an addiction problem and other typical depressed attorney things you hear about. The more I practice, the more I realize this was never what I wanted. Want to exit to a start up in an operations role. Advice?

Have you considered in-house work?

In house is just a more depressing version of biglaw (i.e. all the boring stuff but none of the interesting transaction/lit stuff) imo. If you have a business undergrad, lean on that and network hard if you want to exit into a non-legal role.

Has anyone asked for a pay raise for the increased amount of responsibilities that was not originally asked or discussed in job description. It's been over 1yr and I have few certs. I made impact on my team. They value what I bring to them, but workloads increased more than my main role. I think it's fair to ask for a better pay raise. What do you think? Or should I just moved on to another company? What example information can I talk to my manager to negotiate? I'm underpaid ~14%. Need guidance
