Currently gs13 attorney for a federal agency, got a notice for an interview for a public corp paying $40k more for salary. Would you give up your federal position for $40k base pay difference? The interviewing employer gets funding from both federal & by several states, but they are not a federal agency.

Also, consider the value of the federal pension and, if you’re close to retirement or think you will retire from government, the value of discounted health insurance for life.

Ask yourself if you'll find the job rewarding or if the hours/work-life balance would benefit you. Then factor in how badly you need or want the money. If you dont need the money and you won't be happy in the position its not worth it imo. If you'll be just as happy with the private sector role as you are now and it works with your life balance, go for it

Thank you all.

Been asked by a client to apply for a GS14 term position but I have a few questions/concerns.
1. Current salary is 140K with ~10K variable comp. If I wanted to at least match, it would require me to be in Step 5/6— is that possible/likely or would I have to start at Step 1?
2. How often have you seen term positions converted to permanent? I’m considering turning this offer down due to this.

I love what I do and I have an offer to stay in International Development and be a manager with 86k, focusing on my technical area + lots of travel. But I also have offers from Deloitte and EY to be a GPS consultant at ~100k. Is it worth it to move to D or EY? Have personal financial goals that i need to reach for my family and thats why i started considering EY and D.

Do Leidos, SAIC, and other mostly-fed consulting businesses pay bonuses to all levels? If so, what does a typical bonus target look like? Booz Allen does not pay bonuses until you get to the Senior Associate level (1 step below Director) and I think that impacts employee performance and work ethic pretty dramatically. I’m wondering if not paying bonuses is common to federal contracting because of how the contracts or priced, or if this is something unique to Booz Allen.
