I don’t do ID but everything I hear is that people struggle to break out of it, especially as they move up the ranks when it can become almost impossible. This seems like a major career opportunity for you even if you only do it for a few years. You’ll be in the big leagues doing commercial lit work. I’d take it. Could be a life changing opportunity to get out of insurance forever.
Yeah I’m corporate obviously and my version of this is going from a small boutique to a major biglaw firm this year and yes it’s more work but the opportunity has been life changing, plus the money. People should challenge themselves more often IMO even if you don’t stay in that forever. A good name brand firm and pivot into commercial lit seems like a no brainer to me! Congrats.

If you want out of ID, take it. Worst case you hate it but have opened doors that aren’t open to you now.

I got out of ID and my life changed for the better. Take it and a new career path will be unlocked
AmLaw100 changes your resume forever, even if you only do it for a few years. Not to mention that you won’t be pigeonholed into ID anymore. ID will always take you back if it turns out that you actually want to go back to that work, but the am100 opportunity is rare. Take it.
This... ID is constantly churning out associates, and firms are ALWAYS hiring. Should you wish to go back, it’s easy. Yet, going into commercial from ID is the extreme opposite.
It depends on what you want and if you want to get out of ID. In commercial lit you’ll be doing more complex work/ lower volume cases/ higher quality and higher stakes. Many attorneys find that attractive.
You definitely make much more money in terms of salaries and bonus in commercial litigation versus ID even when talking mid-level and boutique firms (not just big law).
If you’re intrigued by the subject matter you should absolutely take it! It’ll be great experience for you.
Just make sure they offer solid mentorship and it’s not sink or swim (unless you thrive in that style/ some do and find this is the best way to learn/ most don’t like this style).
I find lack of mentorship being the biggest reason attorneys are unhappy with their firms (for those who are unhappy where they’re at).
If you are above market right now how does going to a below market firm with a higher cost of living result in a pay increase
