Any one considered doing part time Consulting engagements via Services like MBO, Catalent GLG etc. Seems like a good way to stay in the game earn some extra income but do it on an Ad hock basis.

Been with Big Four advisory (GRC) for 10 years. Really tired of meaningless “consulting” and commoditized implementations. Recently been through a rough job search and finally landed an offer with a mid size bank in their risk practice. People say that the culture there is quite political and bitter but I’ll learn a heck lot and get a new opening on my resume. Salary is the same. The other option is to take a consulting job that pays me 50k more but do the same work! Thoughts? Thanks!

I've had some people reach out to me on LinkedIn asking for free guidance on interviewing, starting out in a job, moving up, etc. I've met with a few people more than once for an hour or so at a time...wondering how big the market is for doing this kind of thing with recent college grads? I am project manager in clinical research industry (CRO). After earning PhD, I gave up my science dream to take a more stable job. After slowly climbing the ladders, I feel like I finally got a seat at the table. Half the days I like the hustle, but now I miss being creative. I want to take more brainstorming, decision making responsibilities but I don’t see that in the career path for PM. Career path usually goes like this- Sr PM, Director, Sr Director, and so on. But all do same work.

When you meet with a partner for a new assignment. Do you bill for that time? I’m a new associate, so I don’t know. On the one side it seems that meeting and conferring for an assignment requested by the the client would be billable since it’s using firm time and resources. On the other side, we are just talking about how to tackle the assignment and not tackling the assignment itself.

I wouldn’t even mind the hours of this job if people were kinder.

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

I have a friend trying to talk me in to an IUL instead of a 529 for my kids. (My kids have 529s and that’s what I intend on staying with.) Am I missing something? Can someone dumb it down for me why IUL is a bad idea (if it is, in fact, a bad idea). Is there any reason to have both? Her main reason is that 529 counts as income and IUL doesn’t and can also serve as a retirement plan. Help, wise ones!
