We did. Figured in the grand scheme of the cost of having a kid, it wasn’t that much and who knows what science might come up with some day.
We did for our first. Not the second since cord blood can be used for siblings. We figured it’s one of those things you hope you never need but if you do you’ll be glad you did. Cost was nominal so it seemed like a good investment.
We delayed clamping just to ensure the cord blood had an opportunity to reach our newborns. The only person I know who banked cord blood has a wife who is paralyzed from the waist down and hopes to one day be able to use the cord blood for her own benefit.
I suggest researching delayed clamping along with reading the potential future benefits of cord blood, weighed against the cost of banking the blood.
I think it highly depends on what your needs are for doing the procedure. What exactly are you looking to gain from it?
We did and it is really not useful (what all my physician friends told me)
We did too, for same reason as MD1. Worth it just in case.
Nope, we donated it though.
Did it too. You never know what you might need it for.
Sadly, no one that I know.
We considered it but ultimately decided not to do it
Did it on #3. We were leaning towards it and then found out we won free cord blood banking for birth and first year storage through one of the top providers. It was legit. Apparently I entered my name on their site one evening and payday.
Our thought process was same. Never know if it might work and be needed. So at our HH income a few hundred $$ in storage fees per year won’t be noticed.
I was told that the private banks charge an arm and a leg and no guarantee it works. Was advised to donate, If possible. I think you get on a priority list with higher match odds if you actually donate.
Consider public vs private banking...
