Yes
Reduced during pre school (we took daughter) nanny picked her up.
Grade school we helped out nanny transition to another family. Au pair is perfect at this stage. Friends had success finding a “mothers helper” for after school (basically high school kid for a few hours)
We got by with neither but it was tough. She’s now old enough and has after school activities every day which helps.
Summer we did day camps. Just old enough this year (10) to do 4-week long sleep away camp! 🎉
We do camps all summer. I think a nanny would be cheaper but maybe not as fun.
We also switched to aftercare at school once 1st grade hit. It was generally more reliable. The after school only gig is tough to keep staffed- people need more hours/money, those who don’t tend to be younger and have activities or leave for college. Or graduate college and move on. It was just easier for us to send kids to aftercare and pick up at 6.
