I am looking to start a brokerage account but I’m not sure where to start. What would you recommend as step 1?

1. Pick a low cost brokerage (Schwab, Vanguard, Fidelity).
2. Go to their website and open an account.
3. Transfer in money. Process is same as any bank account transfer.
4. Pick some investments. I'd start with a simple index fund while you get your feet wet such VSTAX or SWTSX. I'm not sure of fidelity equivalent.
5. Let it sit. Reinvest dividends, but you'll pay taxes on those at tax time.

I would pick the brokerage that your 401k or Roth/traditional IRAs are at. It makes it a bit easier.

I recommend ally for low cost brokerage. Ive used them for years.

If youre and want to do a brokerage (not IRA) I recommend a few index funds to start. Personally I have VTI and VXX but do your homework

Hi All. I moved to a new company , I just got my take home salary and my current pay is less that previous pay ,because of different state and other taxes. I wouldn't have minded the same pay , but $1000 less /month is a lot !

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

Probably the antithesis of this bowl - but need some advice. This is for a house in a Southern metro. Built in 1960s completely remodeled in 2000s with some very recent additional remodeling of kitchen and bathrooms. Well kept house. The price will be nearly $1M, the same as something built in 2010+ with similar square footage (because a lot of the price is the lot, its a super expensive zip). Should I steer clear because of the age? Will it cost a ton in maintenance and utility bills?
