1. Pick a low cost brokerage (Schwab, Vanguard, Fidelity).
2. Go to their website and open an account.
3. Transfer in money. Process is same as any bank account transfer.
4. Pick some investments. I'd start with a simple index fund while you get your feet wet such VSTAX or SWTSX. I'm not sure of fidelity equivalent.
5. Let it sit. Reinvest dividends, but you'll pay taxes on those at tax time.

I would pick the brokerage that your 401k or Roth/traditional IRAs are at. It makes it a bit easier.

I recommend ally for low cost brokerage. Ive used them for years.
If youre and want to do a brokerage (not IRA) I recommend a few index funds to start. Personally I have VTI and VXX but do your homework
