Unplug. PTO is part of your compensation.
If you let them make you work on PTO then you are setting the expectation that you will always work on PTO. I tend to make sure I am leaving the country and don't respond to anything and it has worked out great. Now I actually get to unwind a bit during my time off.
Be more active in your last few days before going on PTO, ask what is important for you to take off, transition work to others (through help of management). This sets the right expectation for checking out during PTO. Then be ready to do this for others when they take off.
Obviously idk about Deloitte, but if I put any time into work while I'm on PTO I don't take those hours as PTO. So if I work 1 hour one day I will only take 7 hours of PTO that day
Anything more than two weeks requires RSLL approval
Definitely do not work, otherwise you are going to burn right out!
You are a consultant. Sugar coat/sell.
I checked emails every other morning then totally unplugged the rest of the day. My mind was at ease knowing everyone still thinks I'm a high performer when it really was just an hour tops out of my day. My family was really angry at me though... But agree with set an out of office for all email accounts and include something fun for your Deloitte email (I.e. "I'm on PTO meeting Mickey Mouse!") and most people will get a chuckle and feel bad about pestering you too much
I've never asked for permission to take PTO nor do I work on PTO.
And there rules on the approval you need for PTO? And the max you can take at once?
I'm only taking a week; was just wondering what the PTO culture was 😃 thanks all, good advice here
Email them directly with when you want to take the PTO and the reason why. I took 3 weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon and got approved nearly instantly.
What if my reason is "because I want to"
@D3 You don't have to give an explanation. It's just a notice, like D5 said.
@OP There's great advice in this thread. I also put an automatic reply saying I'm traveling abroad and will have limited access to email. I purposely don't answer any emails unless it's a severe emergency and the project cannot continue without my response. My team was very respectful of my PTO.
Wait what? How do I go about getting that?
Do you just email the RSLL and ask? Or what? Do they usually say yes?
Lol I emailed the RSLL and cced RM and RM responded to tell me I didn't need RSLL approval....thanks guys....
