Hi all, I’m negotiating my offer for a senior SE role. I see online that average TC is around 170k TC (70/30 structure). Is it reasonable to negotiate higher? Or is the pay structure pretty rigid per level? Also, any chance you think I could negotiate for RSUs? I am in Atlanta if that helps.

Hi cat bowl, looking for some advice for WFH with cats. Every time I need to speak in a meeting, one of my cats comes over and starts crying loudly and incessantly. I know it probably was a result of my reinforcing the behavior in some way, so I try not to look at or pet her when she’s doing it. She’s completely silent otherwise, and I give her lots of attention. I live in a small 1 BR apartment and work in the living room, so not much opportunity to be in a separate space. Any ideas?
Any insight on M&A experience? I have 3yoe at a midsized firm in generalized tax accounting but I’m not loving it. Anyone gone from tax to m&a? How’s the process and learning curve been?

Given the recent spate of ahistorical / dubious comparisons between the Biden admin and unsavory regimes of the past, it’s only a matter of time before someone posts an article about Biden infrastructure plans for rail with the comment: You know who else made the trains run on time? Mussolini!!! It’s the first step towards tyranny!
Personally, on a more serious note - I’m really excited for expansion of Amtrak and light rail!

I would like to first commend the attorney for starting this bowl. I attended a T4 school and was stuck in doc review for years. However through networking, I made connections which gave me a chance to get my foot through the door. One I did I knew they would have to physically drag me out of that firm if they wanted me to leave. Now I’m a partner at a multi-state/national firm. I’m always looking for similarly situated young attorneys to mentor and help. Anyone out there feel free to pm me.

Welcome, underdogs. Let’s get down to brass tacks — what’s your underdog story, or maybe you’re still at the bottom of an uphill struggle?
What have been your most challenging “underdog” interview questions to have to answer? You know, the ones that make you explanation yourself you worry about being received poorly. We’re you able to succeed, and if so, what was your answer?
Hey Underdogs, Just out of a state clerkship, unemployed, barred in NJ eligible to transfer score to NY. OCS unhelpful where should I be looking for job postings.
We’d love to hear success stories of the extreme. Has anyone gone from low ranking bottom class struggling for work to a rewarding career, both fiscally and mentally? The more contemporary the better, since the legal education, landscape and job market has drastically changed in the millennium.
Does anyone have a poor relationship with their alma mater? This can be in general or department specific. For example, I have always felt disappointed with career services from my law school. I feel struggling alumni, like those that failed the bar or remain unemployed long enough to be recorded as negative statistics for the school’s ranking, have already done their damage so they have no incentive to help you any further.
Any minority lawyers in here that were blacklisted from big firms for a time gap or after layoff? How did you move forward?
My fiancée almost lost her life to a medical emergency. The doctor needed me to stay home 2 weeks to supervise her post-operative care once the hospital discharged her. We had nobody near that could help so I got permission to attend class remotely for 2 weeks from the dean and all professors. One professor removed me from a graded argument the week after I’d return. When I asked about this error, he had said “I had planned on your failure to appear” and that he preplanned giving me a 0 grade.
For those that struggle with “imposter syndrome” that don’t have a lot of successes to self-assure with, what strategies do you employ to help rebuild your confidence in a pinch? (Continued)
