Make as much money as you can as soon as you can. Long term agency careers are a thing of the past
If you like it there and you make enough to not be stressed about money then stay.
Agree with ECD. Too many people jump for money only. While it’s important, if you’re not in a place you love, no salary will not be enough to counter 12 hour days in a place that makes you unhappy.
You will never make more $ by staying in one place. However, jumping for bad opportunities is not worth any amount of money. Be strategic and you will be happier. Never stay at one place unless you started it. You will make half of what you can if you move every 3-5 years. Remember agencies are in the business to make money for their holding companies and the moment that stops happening you become dispensable. If you don’t believe it I can give you tons of stories of good, brilliant people who got screwed when things got tough.
The norm is to leave and return for a higher salary as raises don't keep pace. BUT many of us don't have the tough conversations at every level. Have a number in mind, set a meeting and ask for it. If they say no, you know you tried. You can still always come back at the higher salary
Agree with ECD1. As long as you are making enough to live comfortably, I would stay if you are happy. There is much more to life than money and so many people here seem SO miserable. it's not worth it.
Yes, agencies take advantage of everything and everyone to some extent. If you have been there for 6 years and are getting promotions and salary bumps, you‘re likely not getting industry average salary for your current title or it’s possible that your title is not really something that matters if they’re giving it out that frequently. They may let you think you’re a senior manager level skilled employee but if you go to another agency, you might just qualify as a first year manager or the opposite, you may be associate director or higher in skills and pay you at a lower level. Good luck.
