Those of us who know what we’re doing and make it in this industry long term do actually read your bio - LinkedIn, firm website, and anywhere else we can find you.
(How) would you be able to tell whether they do without first jumping on a call with them? I usually have a call with the recruiters first but I'm not sure if that is the best thing to do
No, they dont. In the past year ive been invited to work minimum wage at a comic convention, to be a legal secretary, a receptionist, and one recruiting company invited me to interview for a contract position - while I was ALREADY working in a contract position for that SAME company, that THEY had placed me in. I dont read my inmail anymore.

They may see potential. That’s what I’ve had happen and almost landed a job that I thought I wasn’t qualified for. Someone more qualified just happened to come along during the process. You just never know. Don’t doubt yourself too much.
Lots of lazy recruiters for whom it’s just a numbers game. Always vet who you work with!
Maybe posting where I’m not welcome, as my I’m here more with a Tax Exit/Analyst Exit query. I worked hard like everyone here in law school and did very well. I landed a midsized corporate firm in the Midwest but wanted BigLaw. Added an LLM at UF toward this end, but prospects for entering big law from my program were slim during 2020.
I ended up taking a tax analyst position at Amazon because it was sold as a good way to expand my scope and get familiar with cutting edge tax issues. It has not been that!
I’d like to move to law, both for more money and for better work than what I’m doing at Amazon. But I’m also open to jobs outside of law or tax where I could leverage my interpersonal skills, drafting and negotiation experience, and legal/tax background, like real estate or sales. Has anyone had luck in these areas or know of opportunities?
Thanks. Working on that now. Anyone with solid BigLaw or recruiting contacts, or advice on this, all welcome and appreciated.
We excluded a potential hire from the pool at our firm because she said on her LinkedIn that she wanted to pursue a career in public interest.
