It's over saturated but they still do exist if you are well connected / exceptional / lucky. Significantly harder if you are only looking at tech companies.
I wasn't the most decorated candidate after college & decided to find my footing by finding a niche in cybersec, OT/ICS specifically.
One “back-door” is IT Audit.
Pros: gets your foot through the door into a branch of Cybersecurity
You get to see how the sausage is made within the IT and business sides of the operation.
Exposure to management and learn how they think when making decisions and pick up board level skills.
Cons: boring work checking controls and configurations
Everyone (kinda) hates you bc you are in between a cop and a tattle tail.
Requires that you learn the technical skills on your own bc you won’t be touching a keyboard.
Overall: This is a way to transition into ITGRC, compliance, risk management etc.
It is possible to jump to a more technical role, but will require much self-learning and networking.

Yes, just oversaturated so they have become extremely competitive
Agree with most of the comments above.
However, hate to break it to most people. Security was never meant to be entry level to begin with. Cant defend what you don’t have experience and skills in (systems, cloud, code, etc).
Consider focusing on getting skills and public facing projects that help bridge you to the mid levels that seem to be in more demand right now relative to supply
Sane field as me, in B4 consulting
M1, agreed with you, this is exactly why there’s a “talent shortage” for companies. Heavy gate-keeping and requirements and expectations of a unicorn that will be paid low. 🤦
I see soc positions as the most in demand for entry.
