100% take your vacation when you want and don’t let a soul make you feel bad about it.
Communicate with any news deals that you join around the time of the actual vacation and if they don’t want to staff you, find one that fits the schedule. They will only respect your pto as much as you do. Don’t be a pushover.
Tell them about your vacation plans now and hopefully they just plan your schedule accordingly as best as possible. That’s what we do and it’s feasible for sure!
I haven’t had to cancel but know about coworkers that have. I’ve just been upfront with every new deal about the plans and haven’t had an issue but not sure this will continue. Also, I plan like a month ahead.
Yep very hard in my group. Wasn’t before covid but now we are so busy and everyone is trying to take PTO so we are being told we can’t if it overlaps with other people’s (but there are a ton of people in my group so we pretty much only can each take 1 week over the next 4-6 months). I’m maxed out on vacation and have a ton of holidays.

So more work less staffing less pay and no vaca / holiday? Sounds like a recipe for exodus
No need to cancel if you never take PTO 🙃
