💭 Do you actually disconnect from work when you're off, or are you always halfway checked in?

Weekends and evenings? Completely disconnected.

Vacations? I check emails just so I don't have 500 of them waiting for me when I return. I can forward/delegate some, simply delete some, and flag those that will need my immediate attention when I get back.

After office timings I feel pure disconnection.

That’s a broad question.

It depends on your employer, your position, the ability to delegate responsibilities to others while you’re not there, and your boss’s expectation of you to either have a life outside work, or, to use you 24/7 because they feel they own you.

If you’re making high six-figures or well into the seven-figures, you can make the case that you’re going to sacrifice now, for the money you’ll have later.

If you are a low-paid manager in the restaurant business and your boss wants you to be available to talk numbers 24/7 or to work rotating shifts so he doesn’t have to, then you’ll probably be looking for that next role in order to save your family and your own health.

People bash the Millennials and the Gen-[alphabets] for wanting flexible schedules and blocks of time-off; but in some aspects, they either stumbled onto something or saw the futility of their forefathers’ misery in doing what heartless companies and self-seving bosses wanted, which has been to use-up good people and destroy families. Intentionally.

I say, as a broad rule, “pay yourself first,” as, I believe, we are told by some financial experts.

And jettison “corporate cults.” Remember, you’re always replaceable, and companies know that. Act accordingly.

I get that you sometimes can't stop thinking about work and all the stuff you need to do. The main thing is that you know what's on your mind and try different things to really switch off. Start with tiny habits, like not using your phone on a walk, writing down your thoughts, or planning activities outside of work that recharge your mind and body. And like I said, start small so it's not too much. Once you get these little habits going, you'll find yourself disconnecting more easily than before.

Completely disconnected.
We started a Right to Disconnect campaign at the beginning of the year and it's been a game changer at all levels.

I am much better at disconnecting than I used to be, but I still catch myself checking messages out of habit sometimes.

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

My company went toxic in the last couple months. Chose me and started interviewing. Had a very successful interview with Amazon but recruiter is working hard trying to place me and said there’s no knowing how long to find a team. Meanwhile I just received a Director offer for a company with a 29% pay bump July 1. If Amazon or any other FAANG/large co gets back to me, is there an acceptable way to not burn bridges with new job and accept or delay start date with FAANG? Or fuck it just hop?
