Oh no, I don't check my email. They don't pay me for that time, I ain't working. The world will survive while I celebrate with my family 😊
If I'm off for a full week I glance over emails once a day and instruct my team to call me with anything urgent. I usually spend one early morning or late evening catching up on urgent items.
I set up some boundaries around that because it will always end up pulling me into working on my day off. I used to do this to myself, but now, I make sure I do not check emails.
The last time I took a week off, I turned off my e-mail notifications. I’m so glad I did it. My team knows if something is urgent they can call or text me.
I do it , been off all week, and the week before , I was online everyday. There are certain things I deal with that if others try to step in it makes it 100 times worse. Its not worth the disaster I have to end up fixing anyway , so I’d rather head it off. I 100% understand I’m screwing myself in the end…
I’ve had to learn that unplugging and enjoying your time off will actually lead to better work performance. I never used to take vacations or fully shut down and got burned out several times. Once I started backpacking and literally unable to connect to my email I realized how beneficial it is. If it’s on fire when you get back, use that as opportunity to coach your team on the correct way of dealing with whatever situation happened.
