Hey there - I left EY about 6 months ago. Sort of the same situation. I have two kids and I am the only income, so I couldn't do part time or anything like that. I took an industry job - great beneifts, not as great earning potential, and great interaction with C suite...and it has been the best decision ever. In my first 2-3 months I felt like I had made a mistake with my career, but as the kool-aid wore off, that feeling left. Now I'm not saying to leave, but I am saying that my life is 1000 times better. I've rarely worked more than 40 hours a week. It has been the best thing I've decided to do. My kids mean more than my career. I just never got the help I needed in PA. It was family or job. There is no shame in leaving and it isn't a failure even if you take a lateral position - in my opinion. Good luck!
We have a 2 yo and another one on the way. This busy season my spouse has been the only one taking care of our child. I am exhausted and feel like failing in all areas.
It's Saturday and they have a full day planned while I'm focusing on my work.
Maybe I can hang on for one more year. Hope to get enough experience to get a good job in industry. It breaks my heart not being there for my family.
EY1 I’m so glad you posted! I took a senior accountant position after five years at the firm and everyone thinks I’m short sighted for not waiting to make manager or get manager title in industry.
so time to start looking outside of PA or go seasonal/part-time. I’m in tax. Suggestions?
I’m in the same situation, and to make matters worse there’s a bottleneck at the manager/senior manager level. Feels like it’s impossible to have this career and a family. I’m at a complete loss, need more success stories to keep me going.
