Yes—and sometimes I’m that person. I’ve hesitated in interviews not because I wasn’t excited, but because I was trying to protect myself from being disappointed. Caution doesn’t always mean disinterest—it might mean the person’s been burned before.
I think showing excitement during an interview is a good thing. I wouldn’t interpret someone being selective as a lack of commitment. While a company is interviewing you to see if you’re a good fit, you’re also interviewing them to make sure the role is right for you.
Being cautious doesn’t automatically signal lack of commitment. Recruiters usually look for thoughtful questions and clarity about fit. Showing excitement helps, but thoughtful engagement matters just as much.
