NDAs have become corporate gag orders. Half the time they’re covering bad behavior, not trade secrets. If you can’t even tell your friends you interviewed, something’s off.
NDAs have their time and place, but I agree I’m getting asked to sign them more than I should be. I’m at a point where I’ll ask what it covers and for how long. Make sure you fully understand what you are signing. These places have their best interests in mind. You should, too.
I think the Me Too movement shook a lot of execs, tbh. Even if they don't anticipate bad behavior on behalf of their staff, they want to be protected regardless. You know, make sure that people are too scared to speak out about anything they see or experience.
I don't take them too seriously. I mean, I abide by them if I sign them. But I find the exercise is often fairly ridiculous. If someone tells me something is in confidence and can't be talked about, that's it, of course I wouldn't talk about it. I don't need to sign a document, but, hey, if it makes people feel better and it's the price of getting work, I'll sign it.
Yes and they have been for awhile. I understand them in certain situations. However, now it seems like you have to sign one for every little thing.

I think it's' pretty standerd. It's to protect their IPs or client's IPs. We have people sign NDAs when they visit the studio as there is art work all over the place. Anyone could snap a photo with their phone and put it out into the world. They just really want to protect themselves.
To be fair - this s the norm. They may want to brief you on the subject matter to allow for a more effective interview. Its pretty standard at this point, coming from a person who haas worked in my field for more than 20 years.
I’m very split on this as NDAs are useful and a lot of my clients have been through high security leaks (luckily not from us!) so I get it. But for an interview? No that’s ridiculous l!
