It is. I would argue therapy is too probably not to the same extent. Social work puts you in a unique position of helping people who may not want to be helped, or may be resentful of having to ask for help.
Yes it is a thankless job. Your head is in the right place considering you know that the main goal is to not gain recognition, but it's not also frowned upon to want to be recognized for your hard work. Your feelings are valid OP. Don't be discouraged, thank you for doing great!
IMHO, there's a way to get get your needs for recognition met. I learned it early on. You simply hold out the thought that you are receiving recognition in your heart and mind until it manifested. Then, if that doesn't work, you can kind of fish for compliments. And, if you simply cannot manifest your desires, always remember you have a huge reward in Heaven where the Lord says: Well. Done my good and faithful servant!!!!"
You are not alone. The best advise I can give you is, "do not expect". Just think that their thank you is done through monetary means like your salary and bonuses. It hurts you a lot because you expect something from them to say.
Umm what bonus? Social workers dont get bonuses.
First of all, I deeply appreciate you for all the work that you do in making people feel like they are not alone in the burdens they have to carry. You make it considerably lighter for them, and I assure you that they apprecuate you just as much for your help even without putting it into words. I know how it feels, but don't be discouraged. It's okay to feel that way. Still, thank you!
Indeed. I don't expect anything but it really gets to you at times. Being appreciated can mean a lot and it can really take you places. Just one act of gratitude towards me can make my entire week.
