The ones at my company definitely are.
How do you know?
No. To even get into the surveys at my company you have to enter your email. Then there are always the sections to express what's working, problems, and suggestions. When results come back and the comments are shared, it's obvious to everyone which people said what things. We know each other. Even if you did not know what someone thought before that meeting, people have unique ways of phrasing their thoughts that it's easy to guess
If it's a handwritten survey your handwriting gives you away....unless you take it home for your child or spouse to complete. LOL
True, that makes sense
I like to think employers are being genuine when they say these are anonymous, but I'm honestly a little skeptical. I keep my responses very neutral as a result. I feel bad because this means my answers aren't very helpful, but I don't want to put myself at risk.
I agree.
Mine state they are confidential but they are not,
How do you know they aren’t?
No
I always get a bit nervous myself but if we aren’t honest will be no improvements made as a result. I try to be as honest as I can.
That’s a good point
If somebody really wanted to and had permission to, they could more than likely find out who did what, but I don’t see that happening a lot. My thinking is to always be honest but still be professional about it. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to somebody else. Usually our surveys are just multiple choice things though.
I don’t think they are. I have had first hand experience where my supervisor came up to the team and did a one on one with everyone and rad out everyone.
Yikes!
I would be kind but honest. Nothing changes if No one is willing to speak up. Generally they are asking about the culture. So if supervisors are extremely negative, or moral is low for a particular reason. Say so. The survey could be just an annual feedback or because someone in the company is speaking up about certain issues. This is your time to voice your concerns.
To the anonymity of them. That all depends on if you have to use email to get into them. Best if they are sent via word document and they are placed in a box to turn in. But I don't see the harm in being honest even if it isn't completely anonymous. Only certain individuals in HR or far up the chain should be able to see identifying information if any. And would you want to stay with a company if they let people go just because they voiced their concerns in a survey?
Not at all. Your log in gives it away anyway.

No
No or else what’s the point of the survey? Someone’s reading them.
They are not annoymous at the hospital nor at JBER! Believe me I have experienced it twice but at least the truth made possitive policy changes. But the powers made sure your department knew who exposed them
no because I took anonymous employee survey once and the supervisor whos survey I did asked me why I answered the WAY I DID.
It's a concern that employees have to take an employers "word for it". It would be helpful for all if they actually did, but I've got doubts. After all we are told over and over everything we do is monitored.
Most companies are quite capable of tracking everything workers do, so I always keep responses neutral.
If you have to log in to a computer and into your email for a survey changes are they are not annoynamous
I'm positive they are not always "anonymous" in the way we'd prefer. I've been retaliated against after giving honest, negative responses. That said, I don't know if it's because they could get names, or because they could recognize language, word choice, etc.
Pro
I think they are, certainly hope so! That would be so unethical if they are not
No. At our facility they are broken down by shift, so some of the positions are obvious.
Yes to a certain extent. I don’t believe that any anonymous survey is 100% anonymous. The person conducting the survey will typically be able to see at least vague demographic information to give inclination of the surveyor. Additionally, maybe they are able to view a list of individuals who have not completed the survey yet and thus, creating an environment which is not completely anonymous.
