No. Trump is not to blame for coronavirus spread in the USA.
1) He took steps to stop the disease from entering the country much sooner than ANYONE else thought was necessary. Many politicians who oppose him came out loud and proud to call him Xenophobic and even racist for stopping travel to the US from China. They said he was overreacting and even encouraged public mingling in an effort to show how “anti-racist” they were. THOSE people actively encouraged the spread of the disease. (I also don’t blame them...because we didn’t really know much about the illness at the time.)
2) He put together a group of doctors, scientists and professionals to address the questions and needs of the country. These people were chosen for their expertise, not their political affiliation. Though he did not always agree with them, he did not silence them or impede their work.
3) He supported the states as best he could with what was available and cut through much of the bureaucratic BS to engage businesses in the act of producing needed products for states in the heat of the fight against COVID.
4) I think it is important to point out that the Federal government is a backup to the States in situations like this. The federal government is NOT supposed to be the primary source of emergency supplies. TheStates are sovereign and responsible for the protection of their own citizens. To blame Trump for the individual States not being prepared for such an emergency is hypocrisy at its finest. And...no states ended up needing the amount of supplies they THOUGHT they were going to need. They panicked and actually DID overreact in some situations and because of their panic they started pointing fingers AWAY from themselves...naturally.
5) Even as Trump was making the difficult decision to shut down the most robust economy in modern history, people in several states were promoting parades and large group gatherings which later proved to spread the illness at an exponential rate. (Louisiana as ONE example.)
6) Trump is not King...nor is he God...people have free will and Americans are particularly adept at exercising it. People have blatantly disregarded the guidance of the CORONAVIRUS Task Force Scientists and Doctors. You can’t blame Trump for that.
7) Trump also has more than one job to do, like making sure our entire economic system doesn’t completely fail. There really is no reason that all schools in America need to be closed. He hasn’t said ALL schools need to reopen, he’s repeatedly said that the decision needs to be made at a State and local level...BUT schools need to reopen in areas where the risk is low. Meaning...people need to quit milking this. People saying he’s more worried about opening the economy than American lives... yet they fail to consider how many American lives will literally be destroyed if we undergo complete collapse. It just shows ignorance of economics and the role of economic health in in our lives.
As a side: Trump cannot “unite a country” that so desperately wants to be divided. It’s like trying to knit a sweater while someone is unraveling it at the other end. It is debatable who began politicizing this crisis...I would argue that his critics (mainly Democrat politicians) have jumped all over him from the second he called for closing travel from China, then Europe and Great Britain... defending oneself from such politicization by the “other side” doesn’t really count as politicizing it yourself. Democrats were all over this like they were all over the STUPID WASTE OF TIME IMPEACHMENT (what an embarrassment for our country) and the even more ridiculous “Russian Collusion” which has proven to be a farce. Thus is why Trump said that the Coronavirus was the Dems new hoax. (You know...since they just seem to hop from one to the next.) Which (of course) was turned around and promoted as if he said the Coronavirus itself was a hoax. NOT at all what he was saying...but what does that matter, right? Jesus H. Christ.
No he is not to blame. This states it perfectly
Omg a conservative educator!!! Yayyy I was beginning to think I was the only one!!!
Unicorns!!! Them darned conservative educators! 😁
Yes, lack of leadership during this time, doing away with the playback and funding left from his predecessor, and not taking the whole issue seriously. It should have never gotten this bad.
Obviously Trump had nothing to do with the origin of the virus or it’s initial spread - but what I truly believe is on him is the politicization of the virus. He could have been the leader he’s always claiming to be and united the country to do all we could to slow and stop the spread. Instead he was so worried about the effects it would have on the economy and his re-election chances, he made it a political issue instead of a medical and public health issue. It’s why he’s insisting that teachers go back to school regardless of the health risks - he wants parents back on the job so employment numbers look better. The horrible irony is that his attempts have led to a longer and more damaging pandemic.
