Noooooooooooope~
no— ultimately they are there to protect the company 🤧
I trust them to do what they are supposed to do. In this company, payroll, benefits, and workplace complaints are all handled in HR. I trust them to do those jobs fairly and competently. I do not see HR as my "union rep," so I don't expect them to be in my corner if I ever have a difference of opinion with my manager. Depending on the circumstances I would either concede defeat or pull my manager's supervisor into the fray. If I have a question about a company policy, HR is the one to explain it.
No, of course not. My strategy is to do my job and forget they exist. I never engage with them, I don't want to ever be in a situation of having to depend on them, and I'd certainly never trust them with anything consequential.

Nope. HR is not your friend. Their job is to make sure the company doesn’t get sued. That’s it.
In general, I am dubious of HR’s role on an industry-wide level. On a personal level, one HR exec really had my back in a sticky situation. That had colored my feelings about HR execs since then.
