For all you VPs out there. A couple of good words every now and then does go a long way. Most of the time I hear a good word mostly from other team members. In the end, they are the ones who put it in the review.

It’s not that no one cares until you make a mistake, it’s that managers tend to be very bad at regular feedback beyond negative feedback.

Also, we tend to focus on negative feedback much more than positive when both are delivered.

like

That’s frustrating for sure. Trying asking for specific feedback. Maybe it’s a meeting you run or an idea you came up with and put out there. It’s harder to dodge that kind of feedback as opposed to “How am I doing?”

If you want more general feedback you can prompt it by asking “What should I start doing, what should I stop doing, and what should I continue to do?”

My dad is turning 60 in January, and it popped into my head that I could get him a bottle of champagne from the year he was born (1963). But my research shows that Moët & Chandon's Dom Pérignon wasn't produced in 1963.

Can any wine or champagne enthusiasts recommend a good 1963 vintage, or was that an off year for champagnes? And if that's the case, have any other recommendable 1963 vintage wines?
