Does anyone else feel like once you become the “reliable person” at work you end up getting more coordination and admin tasks instead of opportunities to lead bigger initiatives, and how did you break out of that pattern?

Try to find a way you can break out of just the admin tasks and start asking for leadership tasks instead. Make your intentions known and see what you get.

Good discussion topic with your manager about goals and aspirations. Ask the manager to help with this.

Getting pigeonholed like that can become a real problem. It's good to be helpful and, as you say, the reliable person. Yet you don't really want to get stuck being the utility infielder when there could be loftier tasks to handle. It's good to try to limit what you get pulled into it, and, to whatever extent possible, try to avoid getting bogged down in admin tasks.

Might be time to change roles or companies if the stereotype can’t be changed.

Hello, I am a junior business administrator working in advisory operations. I have been with the company for 6 months, and was employed along with 2 other colleagues. I have picked the job up really fast and am even doing some “extra curricula’s” I really love my job. However I have recently found out I am being paid the same as an apprentice on my team, I usually do at 3 x the work he does whilst also doing my Cert CII. It has really disheartened me and I feel I should be earning more money

I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I am finding that in most cases where I compare the voluntary benefits industry, I might be underpaid. What is an appropriate base salary for a position in which commission is replaced?
