Yes, because they can. Agencies are slashing headcount due to shrinking budgets and often reposting those same roles at a much lower pay band. I think we are also going to see a shift in how junior roles function now that ChatGPT usage is going mainstream.
Makes sense. I tend to agree. Shifting dynamics, automated processes, so on. I will say the use of AI, especially by intern - AE level, is a bit unnerving. Lack of critical thinking, the act of “learn by doing”, etc seem to be forgotten. It’s hard to see how career growth will formulate for those starting off / how it will impact entry barrier for fresh job seekers.
This isn’t exclusive to PR roles. It’s economics / supply and demand. It’s an employer’s market - there are more people looking for work than there are jobs, which drives down salaries. Right now, I’m thankful to have a job and be paid fairly. A lot of people I know across a range of industries haven’t been so lucky.
Eventually, the economy will improve and the market will turn around (at least I hope so), and at that point salaries will increase again.
I sure do. Every salary I've seen listed on LinkedIn and Glassdoor is either lower or equal to the ranges I was seeing years ago. They're nowhere close to keeping up with inflation. I was really hoping to get a new job this year, but it looks like I'm going to have to hold off until this trend turns around.
