Does anyone have 3+ young kids and meet their billable requirements? Is it possible, and if so, what do you outsource/ what help do you have? I’m thinking of transitioning back to billable work but wondering if it’s even doable with 3 young kids!

My kids are 8, 6, and 3 and I have exceeded my requirements most years and on target to meet them this year. I work almost exclusively from home which is huge - no commute and I get to spend my mornings and evenings with my kids. And my weekend work is generally pretty limited, so I can spend my time with my family.

I have a house cleaner once a month, have my groceries delivered, and my husband’s job is a lot less demanding so he can handle things like afternoon sports practice or random school holidays. That said, I work after the kids go to bed most nights and don’t sleep enough, and exercise is more inconsistent than I would like.

This. My kids are 4, 3 and 1.5. I work from home 2-3 days a week and my husband picks up a lot of slack (daycare kiddos are sent home sick so often, and he manages 90% of that bc his job is way more flexible). I work most nights after they go to bed and catch up on work for 3-8 hours on the weekend during nap time. If I don’t clock weekend time, I fall behind and just end up regretting it. But I take my kids to school 2-3 days a week and have dinner w my fam every night, put them to bed every night, etc. it’s hard. We have a cleaning service every other week, full time daycare, lawn care, grocery delivery. We are budgeting for a house manager / family assistant as our kids become school aged. Oh! And we just started a meal service that delivers multiple dinners per week that require only minimal heating/assembly and it has been a game changer. My biggest gripe right now is that between work and kids I don’t exercise even close to enough (but I prioritize sleep) and my downtime with my husband is minimal bc there is always another chore after bedtime. Also, my husband does a LOT of picking up etc when I work late.

What do you do currently? Only have two kids, I’m just curious 🙂

Wow. Y’all are super stars! Curious - what are your billable hour requirements.

I’m a mom of a 6 yo and stepmom to 16 yo twins. Transactional NY Biglaw/2000 requirement. Often feel like I am drowning. Doesn’t help that I now have a 5 day in office requirement.

Also 1900. I def feel like I’m drowning some weeks! I am concerned about losing nap time as my kids age bc that’s how I keep up but also still feel present. I’m not sure how I will manage as they age and will likely either cut back or get help. I’m up for EP soon, and requirements will decrease slightly, so here’s hoping.

I heard so much about minimum billable hours here by staff. I never saw that email. Is it inly for certain groups?

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

Does anyone run a business in addition to their firm? I’m a solo and I’m doing pretty well with about 60-70 billable hours a month. Though that leaves a lot of downtime. Curious if anyone has any second businesses that require about 20 hours a week. Not looking for passive income or franchise ideas though.
