Planet Fitness is great and generally people leave me alone there. I've always found a lot of benefits from taking long walks, especially now that the weather is improving. Any decent parks near you?
I know it’s common, but I’m a big proponent of PF. People bust on the “lunk” stuff, but I like it. I have always been very fit, luckily, and enjoy seeing people getting in there and bettering themselves

I go to the planet fitness in ballantyne and love it. I’ve been to other gyms in Charlotte and I feel way more comfortable at this planet fitness!
Agreed, planet fitness is my fav personally, it's pretty chill and I don't feel awkward/self conscious which is huge
Anxiety goes away when we push our comfort zones! Wishing you luck and also agree with the last comment. Going for long walks or just running in a park, yoga, aerobics, pushups, anything outside in my opinion feels so much more rewarding than lifting weights.
PF sounds like it’d be a good fit, I would probably avoid the dowd YMCA if I were you, probably not a great culture match for you
Work out at like 5am when nobody is really there. My ymca is packed to the walls at 5-8pm, im like one of 10 people at 5am lol.
Planet fitness it’s cheap and everyone leaves you alone

Nothing is better than going on a Saturday at about 10 AM and no one is there. It's like I own the gym. The equipments' all mine today and I'm gonna work the f out.
I have. I don't like it when the gym is super packed which is why I try to go during non-peak hours. I always feel like I'm in the way or taking up a machine from someone.
I think the problem is that 99.99% of the people who hate gyms with lots of people in them are coming from a totally different perspective from you. Most of the time, globo-gyms are filled with people who don't have any serious goals but are just there to "tone" so you don't get that energy. Also, since the strength levels tend to be dramatically different, working in becomes a pain in the ass (switching from 315 to 135 between each set is a big pain in the ass). Additionally, a lot people at the gym can be catty, they'd rather drag you down to make themselves feel better than build you, and that sucks.
ISI Elite Training is pretty good, used to go there but its gotten expensive and with the economy, just cant afford it anymore. But I loved working out there, it really motivated me.
Yeah and I do like to workout in a gym with a healthy crowd and a lot of the regulars are there. Not because I'm a socializer as I don't talk to anyone-- but because seeing other people workout and seeing their regular progress pushes me to work even harder.
I like gyms that are as empty as possible while still having at least 3-4 guys around who I can ask for a spot if it's a bench day.
Gym was empty Saturday while I was there, and it sucked to hold myself back on the bench.
