Empower your team , make the communication transparent , have regular trainings and allow them the opportunity to step up
I second the notion of empowerment and giving people the necessary tools to succeed. Be creative and don’t let monotony kill the teams drive.
Setting standards from the beginning and holding them accountable no favoritism, not writing people up because you’re scared treat everybody equal. They will begin to police themselves.
I like it. Empower them to maintain that healthy environment themselves
I'd start checking what makes the environment like that, where is people's attention? And once you figure that out take action in how to improve
Appreciate the input!
Communication is huge. Talk to your employees and actually listen to what they have to say. Keep the team happy, and you'll have people who want to put in the work
I'll make sure to set up time to meet with the employees, any advice on good questions to ask them?
Using psychological help to assess the compatibility of people who share the same department, and making forecasts before hiring staff is essential.
The best way to create a functional work environment is by holding personal knowledge meetings, so everyone in the team knows each other and there will be more balance when judging others.
There is no single answer to this question since what might work for one company or team might not work for another. You could try creating a clear and realistic workload for employees, so they know what is expected of them and can plan accordingly
I've found that providing regular feedback to employees, both positive and negative, in a timely manner is crucial because it lets them assess their performance and tweak it if they need to. My team gets monthly reports and everyone seems content with that!
It is all about creating a positive and supportive work culture, where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas and working collaboratively. Try not to shut down others' ideas, you never know where a pot of gold may be hiding!
Encouraging employees to take breaks and get away from their desks occasionally is our number 1 priority. We actually have a system in place which (if the employee desires) blocks their computer for 15 minutes every now and then so they have to stop working, we don't want anyone to burn out!
Everyone has a different opinion on what this means. So as someone else mentioned, during 1:1s I would find out what this means to each person. People have different values and opinions.
For example, I can not work with a micromanager. We need to have the mutual understanding that I can do my job without being checked on every hour. I also appreciate flexibility. If I have an appointment at 2:30 and I don't get back to my computer until 4, I expect to work until my responsibilities are done, not to make up the extra half hour because i took it.
Some people need more hand holding and need to be checked in on. I will be vocal with my manager. When I DO ask for something that means I really need help. While others may ask for a lot more.
Long story short, you need to find out what this means to your team then cater to it or come to a realistic compromise.
Good luck and you're a good manager just for asking.
Make sure new employees feel like they’re part of the team. don’t allow cliques to form, they destroy employee morale.
With my manager it’s absolutely been the humanistic approach. Everyone gets along and can talk about the hard parts of their job because our manager understands and listens. I think the environment is very friendly and it makes me enjoy going to work!
Be authentic
The best advice I can give is to listen to your employees. They will tell you what makes them feel like the environment isn’t healthy, and what they need from you to help make it better.
In my case, trying to coral, encourage, and uplift 30+ different personalities without making someone feel you’re showing favoritism is a task in itself! I believe the key is to ask questions with the intent to actually listen to understand. You weren’t always a manager and (as managers) sometimes we forget we were once them. Be the manager YOU needed when you were them!
Respect each other and work as a team
