what’s nice about the nanit is you can check in from anywhere. Also I liked video because sometimes if mine was crying I could check in and see what the situation was. Lying down vs standing up would be the difference between me going in there.
We loved the nanit. It’s one of the few video monitoring systems that gives you push updates without being in the actual app. Manufacturing flaw of so many other cameras. Baby was in our room but obviously we weren’t there when he was napping throughout the day. But heads up if you opt for a Snoo for the early days it totally messes with some of the metrics.
The video capability is uninterrupted but the in/out of bed and sleep calculations can sometimes be slightly off due to the movement of the snoo. If that matters to you 😊. I’m a gimme all the tech kind of person and had it set up for when we got home.
We got the owlet. Was told that’s all we needed other than a basic monitor.
We started using a monitor around 8 weeks when we moved the baby into her own room. I didn’t feel a need for all the bells and whistles of a Nanit personally. We have an Infant Optics that works well. She’s 9 months old and we rarely use it at this point.
We had this monitor for my first and I really liked it...until it crapped out on us. I have read a ton of reviews on this happening to others and it sucks bc if not for that, i would give it a glowing review. Depending on how large your place is, it can also go in and out of range, so keep that in mind. With that being said, this second baby we got the Nanit and haven’t totally used it because our son is still in the bassinet in our room. However, I do think I am going to like it...but just can’t really say I’ve used it a ton yet. Only negative I have encountered is if the internet in your place goes down...so does the monitor which is super annoying. This happens with all the internet/app based monitors. For my first son, once the infant optics died, we put a nest in his room and it has the same issue.
We have a cocoon (they are out of business now) but it was all we needed. We definitely use the video now that our little one is almost 2yo. Sometimes he’ll stand up and needs a reminder to go to sleep. Lots of other decent video monitors out there that don’t cost nearly as much.
+1 on Owlet loved it! We still use our Samsung baby monitor 5 years later— when we had multiple kids it could split screen rooms which has been so helpful
I think I’m in the minority but I preferred the simplicity of our old optics monitor to the nanit for the following reasons:
1) no learning curve/need to download an app for grandparents or other caregivers
2) I think the app UI is pretty crap... key features I use most aren’t on the primary screen... like camera on/off
3) ours disconnects from wifi and the only way to reset it is to unplug/replug camera which is terrible in the middle of the night (think this may be related to having google wifi)
4) the insights are interesting (sometimes?) but not particularly helpful or necessary
5)
Good quality picture and I like the built in noise machine. 🤷🏼♀️
We got the Wyze camera and love it. Our daughter room is right next to ours so didn’t need bells and whistles. We can also check in from anywhere...so even when I’m not home I can see what’s going on at home with her and hubs
Interesting. We have two wyze for the house already and I find them super glitchy and the audio notifications have to be off or literally the wind triggers them. I figured they’d only be useful as a baby monitor with better notifications else I’d be in the app the whole time.
Love Nanit and first time mom here so nothing to compare it too.
Positives:
Can travel with it if needed
Has a night light and white noise built in
App tracks sleep and activity (great when you are so tired and cant remember your last diaper change or how many naps the baby had
Neg
App sometimes is slow to load
Temp on app runs 2-3 degrees hot so had to get a room thermometer to be more accurate
I wish the app video would stay open when in other apps on phone like a facetime video screen or something. We use an ipad around the house though instead so phone can still be used
We dont use the breathing tracker
