Oh wow. Run away...run far far away.
No balance, a 10+year record of layoffs and pay freezes, and job shifts out of NA and Europe on a monumental scale. Better than unemployed but start looking for a new job as soon as you start.
They pay better than pwc
Let me be clear, I LOVED my fellow IBMrs, but as a business or employer, they are horrendous.
^I feel like that's a bit misguided. IBM (and any company) is what you make it. I've had a great start here, good salary, flexible lifestyle and great opportunities. It's not a forever place (it could be, but I don't want that). One negative I'd say is that there's a lot of politics at the top
Does it help to know its public sector ??
So... they haven't moved over 80k jobs out of the US in the last decade? They haven't proven to have a muddled business model limping from notion to notion, incomplete at best. Shown a confused architecture direction , and stagnant stock price? They don't lay off highly productive, highly rated, high demand skilled workers on a regular basis? They haven't laid off or forced into retirement half the Distinguished Engineers named in the last 10 years because they were 'too senior'? Wow. What was I thinking?! As I said, love my colleagues, but 'the vision' is bad and NOT amenable to wishful thinking.
Well PwC is going through massive layoffs as well....
Shitty leadership is everywhere. I'll find out more info though. I greatly appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
Op. you will find fantastic minds, but don't make the mistake of thinking it's a long term or mutually beneficial gig. Keep a parachute handy and good luck.
I have had that mindset for a long time. I think that's the only one you can have in this business. Thanks!
Do enough not keep people happy, but don't do more than you have to. They pay virtually no bonuses regardless of rating and once you get promoted, comp doesn't match the responsibility
There's a lot of rules that come from managing 400K people. They are also pretty stingy when it comes to new laptops, extra software, etc when compared to working for a big 4. Met some great people though, learned a lot, and it's been great to have on my resume.
