Street and drag racing. Drive Supra the most for street and drag races. Occasionally viper or lambo for street.
I did autocross for awhile and have been doing track days the last few years. Best advice if you’re buying a car specifically for it is get something where there’s good participation. Much more fun if you’ve got competition. Autocross wise usually Miata is a safe bet but each region can have very different participation. Track day wise Miatas and Corvettes are pretty common. Also helps to go with a common platform because others have already figured out what works with brakes/suspension and keeping the engine together.
I started with an e46 then got a NC Miata while I was Autocrossing. Track days I started in the Miata and now have an older Civic prepped for NASA Honda Challenge 2.
Autox you can do with any remotely hobbyists car, and you really don’t need to modify it.
I autocrossed for a few years. Drove a 996.
Rising Star
Rallycross. Subaru STI. do not recommend unless you can find a clean example lol. I’m like $40k into this $15k 7 owner craigslist car and it’s still in various states of disrepair, as a result of whatever the f was done to this car in the past 20 years. If there was any modern car with a real AWD system and has no/fully defeatable nanny’s I would get it but alas the new WRXs are slower than old STIs and the Corolla GR is not it either. However rallycross is the most fun you can have on 4 wheels without a roll cage, so somehow it’s worth it. (Rallycross, unlike stage rally, is also not that demanding on your car either, just need to be able to hold high revs for about 1-2 min without overheating)
I do drifting now in my s13, but I have done some autocross days in a first gen miata and rx8. Really don't need an expensive vehicle to have a ton of fun with autocross, you'd be surprised how well I was able to place in the standings with a stock power miata on cheap coils, and an all stock rx8. Just remember, at the end of the day, you're racing yourself to keep improving and having fun with it.
I think I'd try it.
