Nobody actually wants a cover letter
Write a cover letter. If they didn’t want one, you won’t lose points for having it.
Wasn’t required when I applied but I think it helped my application. I was able to talk about how my past projects directly correlated with the group I was being hired into, and I think my senior manager actually referenced the cover letter during the interview. This isn’t confirmed but I think it helped my application stand out.
I don’t think it will hurt you not having one, but may help. Though in all my years interviewing I’ve never seen HR pass on a cover letter for me to review.
Seems like an odd paradox - no one wants to read them, no one wants to write them, they are always recommended but never needed / looked at? Seems like maybe a dying tradition or perhaps a tie breaker ?
No
Always submit a cover letter. Think of it as a non-negotiable.
I've never submitted a cover letter... Imo it's absolutely useless
Kinda mixed answers here
I didn't, but I wasn't an experienced hire. Can't think of a situation where it would hurt.
I did not OP. I applied this Feb if that helps.
Never read a single cover letter. Source: I am involved in recruiting. Though we do ask for one for some reason...
At least we did when I was going it through it a couple years ago...
Recent hire here. Didn’t submit one. But a couple folks on the team knew me.
