Does getting paid what you're worth make you a target for lay offs? I was discussing a raise with my manager this morning and he strongly suggested that earning more money would move me to the top of the list if lay offs come.

How convenient for your manager to come up with that! As the purpose of layoffs is to cut costs, it can be true that higher paid workers may be targeted. But I can't help but think your manager is engaging in some creative manipulation, trying to get you not to want a raise.

like

Wow, he literally told you that? That's very rude lol. Some companies want to save money at all costs, so it makes sense. But this is not true for every company. If you bring/save more money than you have to pay, you will always be essential.

I think anything can make you a target for layoffs

like

I have heard that, yes. That's why they often lay off mid-level managers rather than individual contributors. Then they leave the ICs to pick up the pieces while not paying them any more money

That is certainly an interesting way of looking at it. But they should be laying off the worst performers, not the people who are making the most money.

I’ve heard that theory - top of the payband gets expensive to maintain. I guess the transparency is good? Weird feeling for sure

I’m 3 months into a new job where I work for a global tech company, and I want to ask for a pay review from my manager at the 6 month mark when I pass probation.
I know I’m going above and beyond my responsibilities as I’m not just managing projects, but I’ve also set up a global PMO governance board and have identified gaps within other teams where I’m assisting with the solution.

Is it acceptable for me to be asking this from my manager, and if so how do I raise this?

Teradata : 10.5 Fix
Accenture : 11 Fix + 21% Variable + 60K joining Bonus

Which one is the best suitable for my experience.

Deciding factor :
1. WLB
2. Compensation
3. Yearly Increment
4. Promotion

I'm not in sales per se but I manage my company's largest wholesale account ($150 million per/yr account). It's a great company, awesome culture, good benefits, flexibility, but the pay is not great ($60K/yr). All the pros outweighed the mediocre pay, but now with inflation rising, my paycheck isn't going as far and I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out if I should start looking elsewhere or if I should ask my boss for a raise.

Have an offer from a dream company but I'll need to go in at a lower level. Knowing that I can bring a lot of value to the company (read- I know my worth), I negotiated with the hiring manager to have a level/comp review 6 months after employment. If I hit all my goals (ie, prove myself) within that time frame, I'll get a promotion and salary adjustment.
QUESTIONS:
Should this be in writing in the offer letter?
How detailed should it be? I assume I won't know what goals to set till I start...

Hello, after doing some research I believe I’m being underpaid. About 4 months ago HR did a market analysis for my role. They bumped my salary for about $2k. I’m a mid-level Executive assistant with 6 years of experience and currently supporting 5 executives at a fortune 50 company. One C level and 4 Vice Presidents. I’m currently making $61,000 with bonus included. Based on my research I should at least be making $71,400. I have a check in with my boss tomorrow and I am asking for a raise.

Thoughts on this Celine Tripmphe bag (maybe in teen size since I’m petite)? I LOVE Celine bags and already own Classic Box (light grey) and Micro Belt bag (amazon green). Would this overlap with my collection, especially the classic box? I feel guilty dropping $3-4k for a bag when my salary’s only 100k. But I want to treat myself for upcoming promotion (hopefully) and for going through hard year in 2020. Was looking at Navy Blue but also considering black, camel or more fun colors (red, pink)

I just screamed at my dad and walked out of our home.

This morning I was trying to get feedback from him on a business idea and his response was: Maybe you should focus on your career since you didn’t get a job in finance and had to settle for consulting, and you work at Deloitte... it’s a sweatshop. They didn’t even give you a fast track promotion did they?

This is a regular thing and it’s the fucking weekend. I could use a break.
