When is the good time to tell the company that I am 3 months pregnant. My date of joining is 18th of July. I understand by law I need to finish 80days with the company before I avail maternity benefits which I can easily do in next 3 months.
I want to understand if women who go on maternity leave during probation are treated differently or if there will be discrimination once I let them know about my situation. Wipro Accenture Allstate Quantiphi analytics pvt ltd.

Hey ZS, were you one of the few in the NY office that left recently? Honestly, as long as you don't put it on your LinkedIn or tell anyone at ZS (friends, coworkers, etc) I doubt that they will know. They don't track expenses carefully - I doubt they'll track this super carefully.
I know this situation sucks but what they are doing for you is really helpful. Pwc gave me one week's notice and severance for 15 days so I have to say I am not working when I interview. Maybe let them know when you get on the payroll of the new firm, not when you find a job?
@pwc 1 and 3: that's awful and I'm sorry that happened to you. I know that ZS is being generous but it was just that I heard that Deloitte is giving out a similar deal as well as paying out remaining severance via lump sum. I know that ZS certainly isn't the worst consulting firm out there when it comes to layoffs, but I guess the way they blindsided me with the news, claimed that I received poor reviews (I had never heard negative feedback from my project teams), and basically made me look like a fool in front of other colleagues just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It also doesn't help that layoffs haven't been publicized yet and everyone just assumes people quit for regular reasons. Anyway, I wish everyone from pwc the best of luck!
Hi OP, I'm an attorney and happy to take a look at your severance agreement. Do you want to send it to me or at least the part about your notification obligations? Fishbowl0508@gmail.com
They won't find out unless you tell them and quite honestly they probably don't even give a shit
Your priority right now is getting an offer. Worry about this later.
ZS1 happened in SM too, Small numbers!
OP wishing u luck!
If I were in this situation I would have a target start date for the Monday after your severance is complete.
You could also take it to mean the date you get your first check which is usually 2-3 weeks after the start date
Did not realize that ZS is having layoffs as well..
@ZS1: just saw one of your posts about availability on the east coast. What I have noticed is that 1) cross-office teams are being discouraged more than they have been in the past and 2) PAMs are judged heavily on their ability to keep their projects profitable. More about 1: the AP who went to San Mateo may have been actively discouraged from using any east coast "resources" because he/she would make it harder for the SM office to track revenue and profitability. Again, not sure how long you have been at ZS, but cross-office work used to be extremely common among the US offices and it was not unusual for some people to have never worked with colleagues from their home offices. Now, they have revised the way they track metrics across offices so it is encouraged to keep all work within one office. More about 2: ZS often wins projects based on price and so profitability is one way that PAMs are measured. Suppose a project requires another consultant or analyst but adding another person would cause the profitability metric to dip. In such cases, the PAMs would be extremely reluctant to add someone else even if the person in question is unstaffed and looking for work. It's a really dumb (though common) way to look at things because the revenue is still exactly the same, ZS is still paying the same salaries, and so profitability turns out to be such an arbitrary measure.
Yeah I'm on a long-term project so haven't had to deal with staffing in awhile. I know they've been tracking profitability a lot more closely lately after what happened last year with a couple of huge projects - basically some of them were millions of dollars over budget, which isn't going to help anyone.
@business consultant 1: from what I have seen, ZS is mostly laying off experienced hires who haven't spent their entire careers at ZS. I suppose this is generous because experienced hires should theoretically have an easier time finding employment elsewhere. At pwc or Deloitte, it seems that many first-years were laid off...I definitely think that is harsher because these new analysts don't have much work experience to use to their advantage and there aren't many jobs in general that ask for a non-entry level employee with fewer than 2 years of experience. ZS has always had a problem with experienced hires and heavily prefers ZS "lifers" or those who have drank the ZS kool aid. Experience hires also tend to be more expensive. I believe that I was laid off because my salary was already at the ceiling of my position's salary range. If I had stayed at ZS any longer, they would have had to give me a raise that would make my salary exceed the range by several thousand. Then if I tell other colleagues what I'm making, they may get pissed that my salary is so much higher, etc. Coupled with the fact that the company is winning much work points to stealth layoffs.
As an experienced hire who came in with a high salary that doesn't make me feel good haha
@OP, what level and what salary?
@zs4: Don't want to give away too much info but I joined with experience from another consulting firm and started at the top of the salary band for my position (a couple thousand in leeway at the top). I tried to negotiate joining at a higher level but ZS was reluctant because I had experience in a different industry, which I suppose is reasonable. Btw, I am using glassdoor to determine the ranges so I realize that the cost of level adjustments may play a big role.
Just to give some background OP, I came in at 80 base + COLA as an associate with experience which was about 15K more than the starting base for associates. Were you somewhere similar for your level?
@ZS1: almost to the number! I had 82k + COLA. I think if you are on track to getting promoted quickly (around 1.5 years, no more than 2), you should be safe. I was coming up on almost 2 years without a promotion, probably because I jumped around on projects too much. In hindsight, I would have "aligned" (lol hate that word) myself to a few managers early on and just kept doing work for them so that my utilization is always high. Oh well! I mean, what is the benefit to being in consulting if I can't get a variety of projects?
@pwc1: how does it work at pwc again? Does the severance get paid out in a lump sum upon reemployment? Thanks!!
Or, get a great job and go on a paid vacation.
@Accenture1: thanks! I hope so too!
They have been hiring aggressively. I interviewed with them last year but ended up at PwC.
