I believe all industries are heading to that direction especially what concerns data analytics, accounting, and any other function that can be better done by AI. So people better start learning AI so people don’t end up getting replaced by those who know how to deal with it…
Totally agree! It’s not just about jobs disappearing, it’s about the ones who know how to ride the wave with AI keeping the upper hand. The people who get really good at prompting, fine-tuning, or building on top of these models are going to be the ones hiring, not the ones getting laid off.
Even in healthcare, I’m already seeing radiologists and pathologists who are super comfortable with AI-assisted reads pulling ahead of the ones who resist it. Same with admin and billing; anything that involves sifting through massive datasets or forms is prime for automation.
I’ve started playing around with a few tools myself just to stay ahead (mostly ChatGPT/Claude for quick research and some basic data cleanup scripts). Have you picked up any AI habits yet, or are you still in the “it’s coming eventually” camp?
Not at my hospital. There are tons of new faces being hired here. I feel like tech and finance are getting hit a lot harder by AI than healthcare is, at least right now. I'm sure it'll be coming for all of our jobs soon enough though.
Yeah, that makes sense, healthcare has a lot of hands-on, human elements that AI can't touch yet, like bedside care, complex decision-making in real time, or just the empathy part. Tech and finance are way more vulnerable right now because so much of it is data crunching and repetitive tasks that models can gobble up.
Good to hear your hospital's actually growing though! Must feel a bit more secure seeing all those new hires. Do you think the staffing shortages from the last few years are finally easing up, or is it more about expansion?
That’s a tough situation and unfortunately becoming more common. It’s disheartening to see entry-level positions disappearing while companies lean on a few senior roles and technology to cut costs. This trend not only impacts job security for juniors but also limits opportunities for growth and mentorship. Many industries are feeling the pinch, and it’s forcing a lot of talented individuals into gig work at lower pay. Have you noticed any responses from companies or shifts in hiring practices that might help address this issue?
That’s really concerning! It seems like a lot of companies are going that route. We’ve noticed some shifts too, with fewer entry level roles popping up.
