You looking for a strategic thinker to give you the answer here?
I’m a guy and get labeled detail oriented too.
Is your sample just the one peer you mention?
In any case, I would recommend openly discussing with your manager your belief you can operate strategically (i am inferring that from your statement above but could be wrong) and would like to align with him/her on how to best demonstrate that in his/her eyes.
Agree on specific observable behaviors you can demonstrate and display a desire for productive feedback. Calling out the (perceived or real) bias is probably not the best way to achieve your goal.
As a man who has been called detail oriented and tried to figure out what that's really supposed to mean, I have to say: "Detail oriented" and "strategic" definitely aren't the same thing, but the terms themselves do not unpack what the different expectations are for these different mindsets, so I think you should definitely try to investigate that to figure out if they will clearly elaborate on what they are looking for that they think you aren't doing.
I’ve been called neither as a man so what does that make me? lol
You are just a man in that case 😀
You be needing to listen to Tsylor explain how it be being in her song The Man. You get?

Detail oriented and being strategic are two totally different things. If you want to be thought of as strategic it will involve more than just keeping up with details.
This is a very real bias. I know that this exact same criticism was used to try to deny promotions of several high - performing women I know. They ended up getting promoted anyway and they’re thriving. Turns out their “strategic thinking” was not a problem after all.
OP, you still there?
