My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. Award shows are all about $$$$$$
And, the “X” of the year.
Who will buy them this year, I wonder.
Award shows, industry magazines…aside from feeding egos, we need these things to get on CMO radars to drum up new business. Because despite what we tell ourselves, advertising so rarely “moves culture” in a any way. People in reality don’t notice or take note of it.
When I won my first lion I was at a party in Cannes celebrating and I went out for a smoke, when I tried to come back bouncer didn't let me in... I told him I needed to come back inside because I was celebrating my big win with my friends who were all inside. and he told me:
I don't care what you won, man.
It was a great thing to hear as a young creative. It really shaped my relationship with awards after that (and I'd also quit cigs).
I still use awards as a tool to get a better deal for myself (promotions, better roles etc) but I don't take it as serious as some people do.
Like the ones who did a photoshoot with the awards across NY. cringe.
