Everyone laid off from PwC, Deloitte, ACN, and (possibly?) EY should just their own firm. We could create some place that doesn't have a shit culture and where people aren't walking on eggshells

And never make money. And fail. Yay! But no. Really. The somewhat cut-throat culture allows consulting to exist and for some to thrive. If it was all nice and not meritocratic/capitalistic it couldn't exist.

+1 C2. Everyone acts like they would be Angels if they were partners. Truth is, when you own a company you need to make hard decisions that impact people's lives. I think the frustration we feel is that decisions are being made with "utilization data and prospects" that are not indicative of actual situations but force people to act on false pretenses. But if you were a top 40-50 employee at a Fortune 500 company, wouldn't you do the same thing? At this point, I'm not even sure you could prevent it.

like

Uhhh I don't know EY1, C2... Places like Slalom, MBB, even KPMG seem to have happy people. Although this post was tongue in cheek, it is unreasonable to expect that everyone let go will be able to find a spot at one of those firms. It's also really that we have gotten so used to these shitty working conditions that we view it as the new normal.

like

It will be hard orchestrating that.

But seriously, we could have so much fun. And only hire/staff people into the areas they want to be in. And be the kings and queens of fishbowl.

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?

If I accept the promotion to Partner/Principal what's the least number of years I could work without it being a financial mistake. I have an opportunity to do something completely unrelated that's my passion, but I feel like that's the wrong decision when I'm this close.

The other opportunity should still be there for 2-3 years

Hey fishies, I have a friend who is interested in becoming a consultant but he’s taken an interesting path, would love your advice on any good angles he could take for applying/ types of roles. He has a bachelors in science (chemistry maybe?) from H/Y/P and after undergrad he took a less traditional route and was working as an instructor for things like tennis, piano, snowboarding, etc.. He’s a really smart, personable person who I think would be great in consulting. (Continued)
