More than pay, they also need to lay out clear pathways for growth so employees have an incentive to stay and for working hard.
Yassss!!! I can tell you - pay is absolutely important. However :) people will rock with you through lower pay IF leaders talk to their people. They have to be candid, transparent, GENUINELY listen and connect (including admitting that when they made mistakes - must be vulnerable) then communicate a clear strategy for ‘what are we doing’ and most importantly WHY ARE WE DOING IT!!
Trust - I lived it. Let’s call it our bankruptcy months - in and out within 18 months only because our leaders knew how to connect and rally us minions.

I think most companies either lack WLB, pay or rewarding their employees. It’s not hard. I just don’t think that they have the right leadership. They need somebody that’s actually come up from the bottom that knows what it feels like.
The worst company cultures I’ve encountered are those created by rich boys who graduated straight from the Ivy League to company founders and never had the experience of actually being an employee
Or improve workflows, tech, and training opportunities.
