No questions from me. All I want to see is congrats on your offer and thank you for your detailed responses. Normally these kinda posts are a dead end with nothing from OP after posting a 'Yaay! I'm finally done with consulting. Off to big tech!' but this is so refreshing and the reason why people like me come to this bowl.
Agree with D2. OP you are awesome
Welcome, friend. Also made the jump to Pdm and haven’t regretted it.
Can i PM you? :)
Here’s how I did the prep - I split my time broadly across three areas - Product Design Questions (50%), Resume and Prior work ex projects (25%), Personals questions (25%)
1. Product Design Questions - Cracking the PM Interview by Gayle Laakmann McDowell, Decode & Conquer by Lewis C Lin, Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman. Sites - productmanagementexercises, StellarPeers articles in Medium was also very good.
2. Projects - For each interview based on the skills highlighted in their JD, talking to friends within the company, I organized my stories from past experiences which highlight those skills. This comes in handy for situation type questions
3. Personals - Same as above. I tried to find out the skills the interviewer is looking for (from JD, asking them directly during initial screening calls, from friends) and highlighted ed those skills of mine via 3 - 4 stories for personals section. All stories were in STAR format
What preps did you do and did it help?
Hi DD1 and D1, I have answered my prep and references below as a separate reply so it’s easier to find for all. Let me know if you have any other q’s.
Congrats! Can I ask which company?
@EY sure. PM me
Congrats!
Congratulations OP! I left Tech PM and I'm trying to work my way back now. What level were you at D?
Thanks! I was SC at D.
Grats product management is the way to go :)
It’s a great field to be in since it gives you the big picture of products and how to constantly improve/innovate. Also if you want to transition into Tech, I believe this will replace the traditional PM roles.
Congrats OP! Hoping to make a similar switch. Can I ask how many YOE you had prior and how you managed to get the interviews without prior PM exp? Also, any book recommendations?
Congrats, OP! Your book reco is very helpful. What skills do you think help land tech PM role, do you need to be conversant in a specific technology?
Congrats OP! D2 couldn't have said it any better
Congrats!
Why long nights of prep?
