I recently gave my small firm notice that I am leaving and moving to another state. I mentioned that I am considering starting my own practice in the new area, and the managing partner suggested that I transition to an “of counsel” position at a 1099 hourly rate (remote) while I got started. I thought the rate was a bit low, but I’m not sure what to compare it to. Anybody have any experience with these arrangements? Any advice on how to structure? Or if it’s worth it? Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? What I’d be interested in hearing about are the stories of how people have overcome the challenges. How did you sell that big idea? How did you fix a relationship? The world is not going to get easier. So maybe we can help each other get better at dealing with it. Who had a win recently? How did you do it?

How do you handle remote teams being in different time zones? Right now we have a ton of team leaders on the west coast with the core team on the east coast and because of that urgent requests keep coming down after hours with the expectation to address it immediately. So at this point we’re working from 8am until like 11pm and nobody knows what to do to push back on it

My controversial opinion of the day is that organic social is worth fuckall for the majority of brands (including the trendy lifestyle ones) and that influencers are just propping up vanity metrics.
