Um take it. That is what it's there for and your kids are only infants once. Work will be fine. When ppl quit or get fired they are backfilled with no issue so they can do it for leave as well.
I know several men who have taken the full 16 weeks right after the birth despite their wives also not working during that time. I think it's intended to be only for primary caregiver but from what I hear the company doesn't check or require proof of being the primary caregiver
Nope! I know two senior managers that have done it. They took it after their wives leave was up and it worked out. They had time to plan and were primary at that time
FYI- you don’t have to do it that way, that’s just what they wanted
You are a “primary care giver” if your partner goes back to work/school full or part time. So if your wife is a stay at home parent you technically can’t use the 16 weeks.
Otherwise not too many issues. I took 9 weeks. its definitely is tough as a SM to just leave client responsibility completely behind but no one gave me a hard time.
My wife is expecting twins, and we have a two year old. My PPED told me he would support me taking the full 16 weeks right away regardless of if/when my wife goes back to work. But my PPED is uncommonly cool about these kind of things
16 weeks is no longer just for the primary care giver. Open to both parents. Take it!
Just be prepared for a bit of impact to performance
My wife left her job else i would’ve taken some additional weeks. I considered just doing it but I just played it by the book. The benefit is very progressive so I didn’t want to try and cheat the system.
That's awesome. Thanks folks.
We only have 8wk for primary care givers, 2wk otherwise. In US
