I am truly wondering if consultants in general would be receptive to starting a mental health program at work. Life is hard and being a consultant even harder. Assuming you are like minded and...

Agree with you both. I knew a good man who suffered from depression and ADHD and he his efforts to "fix" his behaviour sadly came too late in the game and he was asked to leave the Firm. I wonder, had he and many others, received some support among his peers could the outcomes have changed? Could he have received better counseling from those who truly meant to give it in the spirit of helping a fellow peer provided him with the knowledge to succeed? Sometimes we need that and sometimes it's not enough. Sometimes, we need professional and medicinal help and I get that. But for those that wouldn't even know to do that, a support group could make the world of a difference. And couldn't we all learn about mental health and become more understanding too?

Think this is a good idea what types of things could be done under a mental health program to help?

I think mental health is something that definitely makes sense for a firm to care about just like physical well-being, but I also know a lot of people sadly subscribe to the “if you can’t deal with it or have mental issues maybe this job isn’t for you” school of thought.

I was JUST thinking of starting this at my local office. Consultants are humans too and need support. Given such a high stress environment, it’s so counterintuitive (for me) that we don’t focus more on mental health.

But I do agree too with DD1. Last time I brought it up in one of the Deloitte trainings / workshops, no one seemed to really react to it except for 1person who later came to me and gave me support.

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

During the pandemic I lost my job and was desperate. I found a 5 month tax law internship to full hire and applied.
Description: “$20/hr to JDs, $15/hr to JD students”.
This was our convo.
Me: …I graduated from law school a few months ago…
Interviewer: so I’ll be paying you $15/hr if you’re hired… I’ll let you know in a week
Me (in no position to negotiate): umm… okay
*3 months later*
Interviewer: You’re hired! However it will now be an unpaid internship, are you still interested?
