Find someone on the bench looking for a project. Refer him/her to your current project. Have the partners on both projects talk out the logistics of moving from A to B. If you have a supportive coach/counselor, loop him/her into the discussion.
^boom. Exactly.
fully well that A needs me until at least August and is short on resources.
I feel this works on paper and never in real life. Assuming you are good, why would Partner for project A take the risk of a new person if there is no negative feedback from client about you and god forbid if there's positive feedback. There's no incentive for them to please partner B. Additionally, since most partners have been in a pissing match with each other at some point in time, there's even less incentive for them.
As long as the person you are recommending is good, you should be fine. If the partner is good he wouldn't mind this. After all you are helping the firm get someone on the bench to a project. You also might need the favor in return. It's all about building good relationships and helping everyone out
What are the risks in just sitting back and letting the partners talk it out?
Talk to your coach if they're good. Also talk to your current partner and tell them this project is not a fit and the other aligns more with your career goals. I've done this before and my SM helped me transition/fly out the same exact day for the new project because he knew I was miserable in the current project.
