To make SM in big 4, you will also have to sell and have a pipeline. That can be hard to do quickly if youâve never done that before.
It depends on a lot of factors. Consulting involves a lot of internal work and networking to get promoted then you will also have sales targets. All of which is challenging to acclimate to if you are coming in from a non-consulting background. I came in from industry a few years ago and someone told me it takes ~18 months to adjust and I thought they were crazy but in retrospect, Iâd say thats about right. Iâm sure itâs different for everyone but in a lot of ways its like starting over bc you have to learn a new way of doing things and everything is in a much more challenging timeline.
My advice is to focus on the $$$ and not the title. Personally I love delivery and not so much the internal stuff and sales so Iâm in no rush to make it to SM. Good luck!

from $102 to $190 I will have to find exact level. I wasn't aware about different levels until I posted this question.

Hey OP. If O were in your place and if I had some more patience and/ or another offer, I would push back hard on the level or get commitment to promote you in 6-12 months if youâre able to prove yourself in the initial few months. Hiring people at wrong levels is highly sub-optimal at so many levels and should be avoided (unless youâre desperate for this job.. in which case thereâs not much room for negotiating..). SM is probably the most challenging role, itâs much more than just being a technical expert not worth it unless you wanna make partnerâŠ

What level M are you coming in at? I came in last year as an M4 and expect to make SM this summer.
Did you come from industry or consulting? Also did you ask about next level before joining or discussed after joining the firm?
