It's a complicated calculation and depends on your age and salary. It starts vesting after three years.
You’re leaving for a $200/k offer before three years? Or joining? It is stupidly complicated and even more so if you started before they switched to a cash balance plan in 2016 (I think). Use the Hewitt site and you can plug in numbers to see what it’s worth.
I am joining, so looks like I missed the "good pension," but still get the "cash balance pension."
I called the pension admin, looks like it would be worth about $60K after 5 years, which I can take as a lump sum and rollover into an IRA or wait until retirement age to get ~$250/ month.
Or I can work there until 2049 and it would be worth ~$7K per month, but $BTC is going to $1,000,000, so I'm gonna Lambo way before 2049! :)
So if you’re a Senior 2.5 years in making 100k and another firm gives you an offer for Manager around 150k does it make sense to take the offer and leave before the 3 years?
