As a former Big Law litigator, I don’t recall the firm hiring state appellate court clerks. It did hire clerks from the highest state courts, or from Delaware.
See if you can make a substantive connection between the cases you saw as a clerk and the firm’s cases. Perhaps white collar practices might benefit from your expertise.

There also may be good jobs within the state court system, or you could consider applying to clerk at the NY Court of Appeals.

Try and do a federal clerkship before heading back to a firm. I’ve seen that path work
